Lucy's Lucky Day

by K.C. Laine from the December 16, 2013 issue

Tagline: Lucy could only laugh at her brother's game-day superstitions--until the day he came over with his charming friend…

In a Nutshell: The power is out in the neighborhood Lucy and her brother live in. She invites him over to watch "the big game," and he brings over his handsome friend. Lucy had been hoping to see him again after her brother introduced them a week ago, and the friend was the one who asked to tag along. A win-win situation.

Observations: This story has it all, plus a photo of romantic guacamole, something I didn't knew existed.

Cute set-up that is not the norm? Check.

Cute child who allows the hero, Steven, to admire Lucy's parenting skills and thereby convincing the reader he's a family man? Check.

Buffalo chicken wing proof that Steven is more than a handsome face? Check.

Male humor in which Steven teases Nate about his laundry habits? Check.

Self-deprecating humor between Steven and Lucy regarding his manliness? Check.

Both protagonists declaring they like each other, thus demonstrating their assertiveness and her readiness to get back out into the dating arena after her divorce? Check.

Witty, cute, make-you-smile ending? Check!

Nice job, Laine.

What I liked about the story besides all the things Kate mentioned is the power outage idea. We've been hit with those a lot on the east coast and I never thought to write a story about it. K. C. took something that is becoming a norm here and went with it. Of course she used the idea and wrote a great story. Great job.

Good story. Enjoyed the banter between brother Nate and sister Lucy, and the easy chat between her and Steven. Stirring a child into the mix was a nice touch and, eureka, another story where the heroine actually had some issues. In this case she's divorced. We're seeing more and more stories with a touch of reality to them these days, which is definitely a change for the good in my view.

While I'm here, just want to take the chance to say thanks Kate for all your hard work on this site and a big HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL. Have a great time and I wish you all lots of successes in the coming year.

Perfect WW romance! I enjoyed reading it. I like how she let the dialogue tell the story and not a lot of backstory or narrative.

Pat, yes, sometimes I kick myself for not looking at something in my own life and seeing it as a WW story until I see it in the magazine. LOL

Thanks, Chris! I hope everyone's Christmas was terrific.
