Life Happens

Two things.

One, I have not received the March 6 or March 13 issues. If anyone can scan and send to me, I would appreciate it.

Two, my father had a serious stroke recently. He is non-ambulatory and can't speak. It's been hard dealing with that and taking over his finances. So forgive me if my analyses aren't timely.

I'll look for the stories you're missing, Kate, and email them across if I can. Wishing your father a speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear about your dad, Kate.

And don't give a thought to the timeliness of your blog, everyone understands that family comes first.

I have the March 2 issue. Is that one you need? I can e-mail it to you.

My mother had a similar stroke. We DID figure out flashcards that helped her, and a pad and a flip plastic thing that kids used to play with. You print on the cover sheet, show it to a person to read, then pull up the plastic cover and the writing disappears and the slate is fresh for another message.

If your dad can use one hand -- and hopefully his dominant hand -- these things may help. Therapy also can do wonderful things now -- speech, regaining body abilities.

Good luck and take advantage of every offer of assistance. It's SOOO hard. Bless your soul and bless your heart.

Take care.

It must be horrible to not be able to speak. I hope he has a promising prognosis and gets better quickly.
