Tagline: Thad had moved to a new town and was lonely...until he met Jennifer
Observations: This story is a perfect example of the type of nice guy hero Woman's World likes. Let's look at a list of Thad's attributes.
As an accountant starting his own firm, he's a hard worker. He's smart too. He's done his research to make sure this new town can support another CPA.
He blushes. And he gets tongue-tied. How cute is that??? LOL
When he sees his chance, he does go ahead and ask if she might help him with his yard. It's okay for our heroes to be shy, but it's also nice to see them have some initiative.
So, when you're creating a hero, it's a safe bet to show us he's a genuinely nice guy. Don't just assume we know it.
I absolutely loved the ending. I'm not sure why. The fact that he is babbling about Jen to his friend is just adorable.

I really enjoyed the story. Loved the ending!
Hi Kate,
I love your blog. I’ve been reading it for quite some time, but have never commented. Unfortunately, I missed this story, so I still can’t comment. I do, however, have a question.
The submission guidelines state that your first submission will trigger an auto response. If you have submitted via snail mail in the past, will your first email submission trigger an auto response, or will it not be triggered because your address may already be registered in their system?
I am asking because I submitted a story the other day, but received no confirmation email even though I have never submitted to Woman’s World via email, but have subbed a few stories—a couple of years ago—by snail mail.
Can anybody offer any insight?
Thanks in advance.
In my experience, the auto-reply feature works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. However, I have never failed to have my submission reach the editor's office. I don't know if that helps.
I sometimes receive confirmations and sometimes don't, and I'm sure Ms. Gaddis received one for which I received no confirmation.
I was told that the auto-responder works for the first submission and after that, it will not send a confirmation. Their IT team is working on fixing this glitch. Until then, assume they're arriving. :)
I really liked this story. I liked how Jen mentioned she had to pick up Emily from gymnastics and Thad felt disappointed. But then, surprise, Emily is Jen's niece. I liked the ending too. I could feel that feeling you get when something so good happens you just can't wait to tell someone.
Thanks for the lesson Kate, and thanks WW authors for the submission intel.
Thank you so much for the info on the email auto-responder. I'd been wondering about it for awhile. Got an auto response with every submission last year, but none so far with my submissions this year. Kate, this blog is so helpful for so many reasons. :) Thank you!
